Don’t doubt yourself

You do not see the world the way it is, but the way you are. The person you are inside primarily determines what is happening to you on the outside.

Who are you on the inside?

Have you ever doubt your ability to becoming the person you are suppose to be from the inside? Doubt can be one of the negative pull on your way to finding yourself.

In 2019 when I was given an amazing privileged to speak to all executives permanent secretaries of Niger State government by one of my role model and mentor, I almost doubt my ability to deliver, but what kept me motivated was the skill I have developed to be aware of the pattern of whom I am becoming.

At that critical point I told myself remembered how you choose as a volunteer to train students from College of Health when they are interns at the Primary Health Centre.

Remembered how you became a peer educator and counselor and worked with People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV).

Remembered how you pitched the SDGs to students at Lagos State University and birthed the SDGs on campus movement.

Remembered how you became Operation Manager at JICA, managing an intervention involving 100 health facilities in Lagos State and several opportunities to train the staff and stakeholder engagement with policy makers of the State.

I kept coming up with the pattern of events that has shaped my engagement with professionals especially in the social impact space, at that point I felt no doubt in me to deliver the task ahead.

After the training and engagement with the permanent secretaries we got wonderful feedbacks from the executives and it was also privilege for me to learn more about how government officers carry out their activities.

When the same opportunity came in 2020 at NCDC HQ to discuss about a project with the Director of NCDC, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu with other directors and staff, I walked in with more confidence to stand, deliver and learn.

Documenting your pattern of events help us form a habit that energize, motive and make us aware of our strength and weaknesses. You can do this all the time by keeping a journal or using smart tools on your phone.
