Growth Gap Traps
In his book 15 Invaluable laws of growth, John C. Maxwell discussed about what he called the growth gap traps. We sometimes fall into these traps and find it hard to fulfilling our God’s giving potentials. Growth does not just happen, it happens just when we are intentional about it. For you to reach your potential, you must grow and to grow you must be intentional, nobody is going to hand over your future to you.
Have you been trapped in this 8-growth gaps before?
1. The Assumption Gap — “I Assume That I Will Automatically Grow”
2. The Knowledge Gap — “I Don’t Know How to Grow”
3. The Timing Gap — “It’s Not the Right Time to Begin”
4. The Mistake Gap — “I’m Afraid of Making Mistakes”
5. The Perfection Gap — “I Have to Find the Best Way Before I Start”
6. The Inspiration Gap — “I Don’t Feel Like Doing It”
7. The Comparison Gap — “Others Are Better Than I Am”
8. The Expectation Gap — “I Thought It Would Be Easier Than This”
Now that you are aware of these growth traps, what are you going to do about it? Obviously in the same book, he provided solutions where you can start from right now.
1. Ask the big question now
2. Do it now
3. Face the Fear Factor
4. Change from Accidental to Intentional Growth
Sharing the growth gap traps with you will not be enough if I don’t tell you I have fallen into the traps before, one of such is the mistake gap. There was a point in my life that I used to be scared of making mistakes, it is one of the major lessons I learnt while I was learning to code, I discovered that even with the millions of videos on coding you will never get it right if you don’t practice.
Failure is just another way of doing things differently. When you make mistakes you go again, our true success lies in our ability to do the things we fear most.
