Strengthening Public Health Threats in Nigeria
It's always a great honour for me to be called upon in service delivery that solve problems of our dear nation. I had the opportunity today to present our project activities, Japan International Cooperation Agency Technical Assistant Project for Strengthening Detection of and Response to Public Health Threat in Nigeria at Nigeria Center for Diseases Control (NCDC), head quarters in Abuja with the Director General of NCDC and some of the Directors and staff Technical Working Group (TWG) in attendance.
This is coming at a very critical time we are all learning the importance role of laboratory services in the delivery of One Health Strategy towards achieving the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Nigeria. It's also an opportunity for me to continue to learn and develop my career in the public health sector and add values I have acquired through many health interventions, most importantly in the last 3 years working on Project for Strengthening Pro Poor Community Health in Lagos State in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Health and Lagos State Primary Health Care Board where I worked as Operation Manager for the Appointment Reminder and Default Tracing System, an intervention to help reduce maternal mortality and access to health care for people in the hard-to-reach area.
The Project for Strengthening Detection of and Response to Public Health Threat in Nigeria overall goal is to ensure all public health threats regarding 8 prioritized infectious diseases are well controlled in their initial phases.
The project purpose is building the capacities of NCDC for early response to public health events regarding 8 prioritized diseases are enhanced.
Prioritized Diseases: Cholera, Yellow Fever, Meningitis, Measles, Monkey Pox, Influenza, AMR, and Viral Haemorrhagic Fever.
The project in collaboration with NCDC will help strengthen the public health system in Nigeria in terms of early detection of and response.
