The battle for Covid-19 Vaccines in Nigeria

Nigeria already experiencing the second wave of Covid-19 and we must begin to feel concern, everyone of us because as it stands there's no vaccines to contain the virus yet in the country.

On the vaccines procurement, planning have been ongoing by NPHCDA and UNICEF with support from other partners because Nigeria accepted months ago to join the COVAX vaccine strategy coordinated by WHO to ensure equity distribution of vaccines world wide, as of two weeks ago Nigeria was suppose to submit her proposal for vaccines. I will be able to confirm after WHO briefing today if that has been submitted.

The country is expecting 2 billion doses of vaccines for only 40% of the entire population which includes the health care workers, people with underlying diseases, vulnerables and the older population.

The lack of funding is a major problem to accessing more vaccines for entire population, this means that we have to brace up the live with Covid-19 for a long time in Nigeria and focus on other health safety measures in ensuring the virus is contained and reduce the risk of community transmission because as it stands vaccines is not the ultimate solution.

Practice personal hygiene, wash your hands, use alcohol base sanitizer if you don't have access to water and maintain social distance.
